Zahavi with Israel in front of five thousand spectators against Denmark | NOW

Eran Zahavi started poorly with Israel on Thursday evening in the qualification series for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The PSV striker lost 0-2 to Denmark in front of five thousand spectators in Tel Aviv.

Israel fell behind after just thirteen minutes. Martin Braithwaite, one of the strikers of the FC Barcelona of trainer Ronald Koeman, beat his Israeli man on speed and worked with a lob into the 0-1 for Denmark.

Halfway through the second half, Jonas Wind decided the game in favor of the Danes, where Heerenveen player Lasse Schöne remained on the bench for the entire game. Wind put his foot behind the ball after disorder in the defense of Israel, in which Vitesse-back Elazar Dasa played, among others.

In contrast to other matches in the World Cup qualifying series, the public was welcome in the stands at the game in the Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv. In Israel, a large part of the population has been vaccinated against COVID-19, which makes stadium visits possible.

In group C, Switzerland won 1-3 against Bulgaria thanks to a lightning start. The Swiss already led 0-3 after thirteen minutes by goals from Breel Embolo, Haris Seferovic and Steven Zuber. Kiril Despodov’s 1-3 immediately after the break turned out to be a goal of honor for Bulgaria.

Later in the evening, Germany (against Iceland), England (against San Marino), Spain (against Greece) and Italy (against Northern Ireland), among others, kick off the World Cup qualifying series. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is in the base for Sweden-Georgia. The 39-year-old AC Milan striker recently announced his return to the Swedish team.
