World Bank expects poverty reduction in Russia by the end of 2021

The World Bank expects a reduction in the level of poverty in Russia by the end of 2021, but it will exceed the pre-pandemic indicators until 2022, the organization believes.

“After rising in 2020, the poverty rate is expected to decline in 2021, but will exceed pre-pandemic levels until 2022,” says the World Bank’s report on the economy of the Europe and Central Asia region.

According to the authors, the government’s social measures have prevented an even greater increase in poverty.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said that by 2030 the number of the poor in Russia should decrease by 9.6 million. According to her, a little more than 700 billion rubles are needed to solve the problem of poverty.
