Max Verstappen will start qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix as the favorite for pole position at 4 p.m. The Dutchman was more than the fastest in the last free practice at the Bahrain International Circuit on Saturday. The Red Bull driver also finished at the top of the times list in the two training sessions on Friday.
Verstappen clocked a 1.30.577 and was 0.739 seconds faster than Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes.
The time of the Limburger was the fastest that was set in the opening weekend of the Formula 1 season. During the winter tests two weeks ago on the same circuit, Verstappen went a lot faster. Then it clocked a 1.29,960, albeit under cooler conditions. The qualification this afternoon will also be completed at lower temperatures than the final training.
Pierre Gasly recorded the third fastest time. The Frenchman went around in his AlphaTauri in a 1.31.583 and was therefore just one second slower than Verstappen. Valtteri Bottas was fourth in the second Mercedes with a time of 1.31.855.
