Vaccine coordinator: Five million fully vaccinated by the end of the first half of the year

The Swedish government set a goal in December 2020, that all residents in Sweden who are over 18 years of age should be offered vaccination against covid-19 during the first half of 2021.

Since the vaccination started, several regions have warned that it will be difficult to achieve that goal given the problems with vaccine deliveries that several vaccine companies have had. But the vaccine target, which is a political decision and can not be changed by the Public Health Agency or the vaccine coordinator, remains, said Nadja Yusuf, press secretary to the Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren (S) on 15 February this year.

Sweden’s Municipalities and Regions, SKR, said on March 26 that the doses in Sweden are not enough to reach the goal set by the government. Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren agreed to new negotiations between the government and SKR, which are ongoing.

Richard Bergström, vaccine coordinator, said today, March 28, 2021, that five million adult Swedes can be fully vaccinated on June 30, ie at the end of the first half of the year. It is a month later than he previously stated to Expressen.
