British series Mom’s new man keeps the viewer in his grip, as no one knows what a horrible thing is going on in the series, but hints of it are given right from the start.
A teasingly multi-level mystery drama starting on TV1 early Friday night Mother’s new man (Flesh and Blood, 2020) talks about how bad things can go to the knot when recently widowed Vivie (Francesca Annis) falls in love.
In the opening episode of the British series, Vivien offers her children a news bomb while showing off her new loved one Mark (Stephen Rea). Vivien’s adult children Jake (Russell Tovey), Helen (Claudie Blakley) and Natalie (Lydia Leonard) receive the news in many different ways, but everyone agrees that the relationship is moving too fast: soon the mother is already selling her seaside house and going on a honeymoon to India.
The children think the mother’s new doctor’s love is suspicious, and viewers, too, get excited right from the first moment about what’s moving in each protagonist’s mind. At least Mark doesn’t have clean flour in the bag.
In a bright seaside town, gloomy things soon happen: on Vivien’s birthdays, emotions heat up and eventually one person dies.
Police begin to find out what happened that fateful night, and Vivien’s curious neighbor Mary (Imelda Stauton), which also acts as a series multiplier.
The stories of family members seem quite innocent and all too similar.
Each child also has their own personal concerns that are followed in the series.
Mother’s new man, Fri 26.3. from TV1 at 7 p.m.
