Nikolai Korchunov, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry for International Cooperation in the Arctic, said that the blocking of the Suez Canal by the container ship Ever Given would make the world think about the development of alternative supply options.

According to the diplomat, it is necessary to think about how to ensure effective management of transport risks and develop routes alternative to the Suez Canal, primarily the Northern Sea Route.
He believes that the attractiveness of the Northern Sea Route will grow in the short and long term.
“There is no alternative to this,” he said.
On March 23, dozens of ships were blocked in the Suez Canal area after one of the world’s largest container ships, Ever Given, ran aground, blocking the channel.
