the newspaper “La Croix” devotes a special dossier to “Street dead”

A work of memory for those whom everyone has forgotten. The newspaper The cross devotes a special dossier to the collective “Morts de la rue”. Its volunteers identify the homeless who died in the street and try to retrace their history to pay tribute to them. The collective symbolically publishes each year the list of names that it has been able to collect, 535 in 2020. A high figure, but undoubtedly well below the reality.

“Changing society’s view of the homeless”

Journalist Fanny Cheyrou, who publishes an article on the subject in the newspaper The cross, spent three weeks in immersion with the collective “Morts de la rue”. She followed young women, all volunteers. Her article mainly focuses on a young youngster, Sara, who left an impression on the journalist.

“Sara is 24 years old, but I felt in her something very invested and very committed in a cause which is frankly not the most encouraging: death”, explains Fanny Cheyrou. “Putting this subject before our eyes with so much ethics and determination, this desire to change society’s view of the homeless is rare.” This special file is available from Friday in the magazine La Croix Weekly. The daily will publish in its Tuesday edition of the daily the names of the street dead in 2020.
