Pyongyang’s last missile launch towards the Sea of Japan was in self-defense amid joint US-South Korean military exercises, said Lee Byung Chol, secretary of the North Korean Workers’ Party Central Committee.
“This time, the test launch of a new type of tactical guided missile is … an action based on the right to self-defense of a sovereign state,” Chol said.
According to him, in the current situation, when South Korea and the United States are continuously conducting military exercises, “the DPRK had to gather military force to reliably protect the security of our state.”
Earlier, the North Korean authorities announced tests of a new tactical guided missile.
In addition, the Committee of the Chiefs of Staff of the Republic of Korea confirmed that the DPRK conducted a test launch of two cruise missiles on March 21.
