The head of the Suez Canal Authority, Osama Rabie, said that the efforts exerted to remove the huge container ship blocking the canal allowed the return of the Rafs and the rudder of the ship, but it is still not clear when it will be floated again, stressing that the water began to flow under the delinquent ship.
Rabei added that he hopes that it will not be necessary to take out some of the 18,300 containers from the ship to reduce its cargo, but the force of the wind makes it more difficult to re-float.
He explained to reporters in Suez, “The stern of the ship started moving towards Suez, and these were positive signs until 11 pm (2100 GMT), but a very large root took place and we stopped.”
For their part, two sources in the authority said that dredging around the ship, pushing it and luring it with tugging vessels, made limited progress in moving it yesterday, Saturday.
A source confirmed that the bow of the ship had moved slightly.
