The death toll from the collapse of an apartment building in the Gisr El Suez area in the Egyptian capital Cairo has risen to 25 deaths, according to the official Al-Ahram newspaper published on Sunday.
The newspaper reported on its website that the Civil Protection Forces in Cairo managed to retrieve more bodies from under the rubble of the collapsed drug in the Gesr al-Suez area, “bringing the number of deaths to 25, and the injured to 25.”
The rescue and civil protection forces are still searching for victims under the rubble of the nine-storey building.
Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal ordered the formation of an “engineering committee” to examine the properties adjacent to the collapsed property and to indicate the extent to which they were affected by the collapse.
