The CSA changes its count of speaking time for politicians

The Superior council of audio-visual (CSA) announces that it adapts its method of calculation of the counting of the speaking time of the political personalities in the media. This analysis aims to ensure fairness between political parties. The CSA will now take better account of non-party personalities.

This is a very important issue during an election campaign. The Superior Audiovisual Council (CSA) counts the speaking time of politicians in the media, in order to ensure fairness between the political parties. And the CSA announces that it will clarify its method of calculation. The objective of this transformation is to better take into account the political figures who have officially left any party, but who continue to play a role in public debates and political life.

Royal, Maréchal Le Pen, Hulot and Valls concerned

This new provision should make it possible to better count the speaking times of political figures such as Ségolène Royal, Marion Maréchal Le Pen, Nicolas Hulot or Manuel Valls. They no longer belong to any political party, but are nevertheless regularly interviewed.

Their speaking time will be identified and counted according to the categories “various left”, “various right” and “other”. This nomenclature could also be adapted according to the political background of these public figures.
