– Milk prices have looked great, it has not been this high before, she says.
1,000 farmers interviewed
A secure food supply is important during a pandemic and farmers believe in the future. This is shown by this year’s agricultural barometer, which is based on interviews with 1,000 farmers and which was recently presented. And it is an overall positive picture that is painted in the 34th edition of the report.
It is not only the milk and meat producers who have a headwind, the plant growers also experience the highest profitability in several years.
– Well, overall it has been a good year for the farmers, says Elin Hagelsås.
Changed consumer behavior
The Corona pandemic has meant that more consumers to a greater extent shop and prepare their own food instead of going to a restaurant and then choose the Swedish goods in the shops. This means that many producers are more optimistic about their future profitability.
– It is misleading to talk about the positive effects of the pandemic when so many industries are on their knees, but it has clearly pushed for a behavioral change that has benefited Swedish agriculture, says Ewa Andersen, CEO of Sparbankernas riksförbund in a press release.
At the same time, the survey shows that farmers’ debts have decreased, but also that the willingness to invest is low.
In the clip above, you hear Elin Hagelsås tell more about the situation for the farmers right now.
