Suspicious package with ‘powdery substance’ at Defense turns out to be false alarm | NOW

The suspicious package that was found on Thursday evening at the Military Postal Organization (MPO) in Utrecht turned out to contain no dangerous substances. Earlier in the evening, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee reported that the package contained a powdery substance. The MPO sends mail to soldiers abroad.

In addition to the Explosives Clearance Service Defense (EOD), the CBRN Response Unit was also called up. This unit within Defense specializes in chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats.

It is not known in which part of the process the package was discovered. “There were several people at work at that time. They had to go outside,” said the spokesman.

The Marechaussee gave the signal safely around 11 p.m. It is not clear what the package did contain. It is also not known whether people were bothered by the substance.

According to protocol, the CBRN also had to set up a decontamination street. This can be used to clean people who may have come into contact with a chemical substance.
