The Suez Canal Authority announced, on Thursday, the suspension of navigation traffic “temporarily” until the completion of the floatation of the huge container carrier that has obstructed the flow of ships since Wednesday morning.
The Authority’s spokesman, George Safwat, stated that the navigation traffic in the canal was temporarily suspended Thursday, until the completion of the floatation work of the giant Panamanian container ship.
He added that “13 ships from Port Said are part of the northern convoy (coming from the Mediterranean) … waiting in the Great Lakes region until the navigation movement is fully resumed.” He pointed out that “the efforts to float the ship included carrying out tugging and propulsion works by means of 8 giant locomotives.”
