The first doses were inoculated to doctors and health workers in contact with coronavirus patients at the Nouakchott National Hospital Center. The Minister of Health specified that the priority necessarily goes first to the nursing staff in all the health structures of the country.
After the health personnel, the vaccination campaign will agree to reach all regions of the country. The elderly and the sick with chronic ailments will be given priority, says Nedhirou Ould Hamed, Minister of Health. He also tried to reassure the most skeptical about the reliability of the product.
If China has sent 50,000 doses, Mauritania is also expecting 800,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine as part of the international Covax coalition. No date has yet been announced for this British vaccine. Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, Mauritania has recorded more than 17,700 cases of contamination and 447 deaths.
