Fernando Gaviria suffered a wrist fracture in a fall in the E3 Saxo Bank Classic. His UAE Emirates team reports that the sprinter is on the side for about a month.
X-rays show that a piece of bone has broken off. The Colombian can quickly resume training, but racing is not possible for the time being.
The 26-year-old Colombian went down on Friday in the Belgian one-day race. In the hospital it turned out that Gaviria was left with a fracture.
“This is not a photo that I would like to publish, but this is also part of cycling”, the sprinter writes on Instagram with the X-ray.
Gaviria, winner of two stages in the Tour de France and five in the Giro, is still waiting for his first victory of the season. He came into action in recent weeks in Tirreno-Adriatico and Milan-Sanremo, among others.
The Colombian is the intended leader of UAE Emirates in the Giro d’Italia. The first big round of the year starts on May 8 in Sicily.
