Russia is not keen on vaccinations. Less than a third of the Russian population would be willing to get vaccinated against COVID-19, a recent poll shows. The majority of Russians would believe that the virus was created by humans as a “biological weapon”. They are also afraid of the side effects.
Russia began a vaccination campaign in December, but so far about 4 million of its 144 million residents have received two injections. Another two million Russians would have had their first shot.
President Vladimir Putin received a vaccine on Tuesday. He did not want to say with which vaccine he was vaccinated, but it is in any case a means of Russian manufacture.
Today Putin called on the population to also take a vaccine. More than 200,000 Russians are said to have died from the effects of COVID-19, although the country itself reports lower figures. To date, more than 4.5 million inhabitants have been infected.
