There will be no Dutch game between Arantxa Rus and Kiki Bertens in the third round of the WTA tournament in Miami. Rus lost to Maria Sakkari in the second round on Friday.
Rus took only twelve points in the entire game in Sakkari’s serve-up games and had to congratulate her opponent after fifteen minutes: 2-6 and 3-6.
Rus did not create a single breakpoint, while Sakkari had no fewer than twelve break opportunities in the service games of the Dutch. The Greek used four.
The 25-year-old Sakkari is 25th in the world ranking and is placed 23rd in Miami. The Russian, who is five years older, is the global number 84.
The South Holland player settled in the first round of the prestigious hard court tournament in Florida with the Czech Marie Bouzková (WTA-47). That was her second win of 2021.
Bertens had a bye in the first round. The 10th-placed Dutch will take on the Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the number 126 in the world, later on Friday in her first match.
