Residents of the Irkutsk region felt an earthquake with an epicenter in Mongolia


Residents of the Irkutsk region felt an earthquake of magnitude 5.6, which occurred in Mongolia near Lake Khubsugul. The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that the epicenter was 34 km from the village of Turt.

“Today, March 31, at 08:01 (IRK), an earthquake that occurred on the territory of Mongolia near Lake Khubsugul was reported from the seismic station duty officer of the Baikal Seismological Expedition to the operational duty shift of the Crisis Management Center of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the Irkutsk Region , with a magnitude of 5.6 and an energy class of 14, ”the Ministry of Emergency Situations said in a statement.

The earthquake was felt on the territory of eight municipalities of the Irkutsk region in 285 settlements.

No casualties or damage were reported.

On March 30, two earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.2 and 4.2 occurred off the coast of Kamchatka.
