A 5.5 hectare piece of land in Spoolde in Zwolle (about ten football fields in size) may be used as the city’s first food forest. Over the next six months, an initiator will investigate whether there is sufficient support in Zwolle and whether the plan is financially feasible.

In a food forest, plants, trees and shrubs grow that you can eat. Consider, for example, fruit, carrots and nuts. According to the municipality of Zwolle, such a forest provides advantages. The food forest provides a wider variety of animals and plants in Zwolle and a sustainable economy by using products up close.

An initiator has reported to the municipality of Zwolle to develop the idea, which has been on the shelf for a few years. This person wants to rent a 5.5 hectare piece of land in Spoolde from the municipality for twenty years.

After six months, the municipality decides whether to work with the initiator for the next twenty years. Then the first plants can be planted for the food forest.
