“The only thing that matters is whether the vaccine is effective and safe, not where it comes from. Since February we have been in good dialogue with the Russian side, for which I am very grateful. If Austria receives an additional 1 million doses of the vaccine, it will be possible to return to normal life earlier, and we can save many lives and jobs, ”Kurz’s statement to TASS quoted.
As the Federal Chancellor’s Office clarified, Austria and Russia are now negotiating the purchase of 1 million doses of the drug in three tranches – with deliveries in April, May and June 2021.
Earlier, Sebastian Kurz called on the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to register Russian and “all safe” vaccines for use in Europe as soon as possible, noting that “the more, the better.”

Meanwhile, the head of the Ministry of Health Mikhail Murashko noted a decrease in the incidence of COVID-19 in Russia. He also added that it is premature to talk about the third wave of the epidemic in the country. The minister also spoke about the formation of immunity in Russians who have had the disease.
“Today, in those patients who have had a confirmed coronavirus infection, we see that for up to six months, almost everyone retains immunity,” he said on the air of the Doc-Tok program on Channel One.
Earlier, Deputy Murashko Tatyana Semyonova said that the incidence rates of coronavirus infection in Russia indicate a possible third wave of the spread of the virus. Vadim Pokrovsky, head of the department of the Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, disagreed with her, noting the growth of herd immunity among the population.
“The immune layer is growing very quickly – both due to those who have been ill and due to vaccination, so there is no need to expect that there will be any other very large rise,” he said in an interview with the radio station “Moscow Says”.
