Somali radical Islamist leader Shebab called for strike “American and French interests” in Djibouti, in a video broadcast on Saturday March 27, less than two weeks before the presidential election in this small country in the Horn of Africa.

In this video, Ahmed Diriye – also known as Ahmed Umar Abu Ubaidah – attacks Djiboutian President Ismaël Omar Guelleh, in power since 1999 and who is running for a fifth term, which he is sure to win, during of the presidential election of April 9. He has “transformed Djibouti into a military base from where every war against Muslims in East Africa is planned and executed”, he says, calling on Muslims in the country to “make American and French interests in Djibouti the absolute priority of (their) targets”.

Due to its unique geographical position on the borders of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, facing the Strait of Bab el-Mandeb which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, Djibouti is home to many foreign military bases.
