Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Rosstat and the Prosecutor General’s Office to ensure the observance of the constitutional right of people to free expression of their will in determining their nationality during the All-Russian Population Census and to strictly suppress any attempts to pressure.
The President recalled that, as a rule, the census is carried out every ten years and “gives the most complete picture of the number of large and small nations.”
According to him, “this picture must be absolutely objective.”
“I ask the Federal Statistics Service, together with the General Prosecutor’s Office, to ensure during the census the strict observance of the constitutional right of people to freely express their will in determining their nationality, to strictly suppress any attempts of pressure here, especially discrimination on ethnic grounds,” the president said.
Putin also called on not to allow the transfer of interethnic conflicts to Russia from abroad.
Earlier, the Ministry of Economic Development proposed to conduct the All-Russian Population Census from 23 August to 30 September.
