A loud bang took place at the Mieraskerk in Krimpen aan den IJssel in the night from Monday to Tuesday. The police confirms this against NU.nl. There were no injuries, but there was material damage to the front of the building.
The bang could be heard around 4.35 am. The police are currently investigating the church on Nachtegaalstraat. It is not known whether it is a targeted action. It may be fireworks, but that has not yet been confirmed.
This weekend the Mieraskerk was frequently in the news. To the dismay of the congregation, the church decided to physically hold services in front of hundreds of people in attendance. Meetings are prohibited because of the corona rules, but because of the constitutionally enshrined freedom of religion, they do not apply to churches.
Church tensions ran high on Sunday morning when journalists attempted to interview churchgoers. A reporter from the Rijnmond broadcaster was beaten by a 43-year-old visitor. Mayor Martijn Vroom of Krimpen aan den IJssel condemned the attack on the journalist.
