PODCAST. Listen to the podcast “Au comptoir de l’Info”, with Jeff Wittenberg, political journalist at France 2.

“I am careful not to have privileged relations with politicians,” says Jeff Wittenberg, when asked about the collusion that sometimes binds political journalists to the officials they are responsible for monitoring. He managed to keep this distance in a natural way, without making it a personal “trademark”.

A little more than a year from the next presidential election, the political journalist returns to what is in the process of establishing itself as a habit during election campaigns: during meetings, the teams of candidates themselves ensure the capture images that they then offer to televisions. The latter do not have the possibility of filming the meetings themselves. Jeff Wittenberg recalls that in these cases, France Télévisions indicates on the air: “images provided by the candidate”.

Finally, Jeff Wittenberg returns to the moment which marked him the most during his career: the evening of April 21, 2002, when Jean-Marie Le Pen arrived in the second round of the presidential election effectively eliminating Lionel Jospin. He tells how the information got to the newsrooms around 7:15 p.m. and how hard it was to believe it was true, so great was the surprise.

You can subscribe to this series on the Radio France application, Spotify, Deezer, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts and AudioNow.

About the podcast: “At the info desk” is the first native podcast of France Télévisions. In the form of a journalistic interview, an actor who makes public service televised information – a major reporter, a cameraman, a presenter – comes to deliver, tell, reveal the way he works. In a sound atmosphere of a coffee counter, he confides his doubts, his joys, but also his fears when he is in the field or in the studio.
