The RIVM registered 46,005 positive tests in the past week, more than 16 percent more than in the previous week (39,527). At the same time, more people also got tested: the GGDs conducted more than 500,000 tests last week. While the percentage of positive tests had fallen slightly to 7.7 percent last week, that number is now increasing again to 8.1 percent, according to the weekly figures from the RIVM.
According to the RIVM, the deterioration of the situation is reflected in the increase in the overall reproduction number (R) to 1.11 on 8 March, according to the RIVM. This means that a group of 100 infected Dutch people would currently infect 111 others and the number of infections in the country is increasing. Last Tuesday, the R-value was still at 1.06.
The number of IC and hospital admissions has also increased in the past week. The hospitals admitted 1,441 corona patients, 114 more than the week before. 313 corona patients ended up in intensive care, an increase of 39 compared to the previous week.
In addition, 223 corona-related deaths were reported in one week. A week earlier there were 204.
Number of infections increased in all age groups
Last week’s infection rates continue to rise among all age groups, especially among young people.
The number of infections per 100,000 people is still the highest among 18 to 24 year olds and is at 359. The number of corona infections has risen fastest in the 13 to 17 age group. Out of 100,000, there are now 295 [CHECK] infected, last week there were 228.
It is also noticeable that the declining infection rates among the over-70s are a thing of the past. Both last week and this week the number is increasing again, with now […] infected people in 100,000 elderly people. A small increase can also be seen in the age group of 60 to 69 years.
