A police officer shot and killed an aggressive pit bull terrier on Wednesday after the dog attacked two other dogs on Melis Stokelaan in The Hague.
The police received a report of an aggressive dog in The Hague South. The animal attacked a dog out of nowhere, which sustained deep bite wounds. The woman who walked the American pit bull terrier and the officers tried to separate the fighting dogs. The owner of the attacked dog sustained a bite wound.
The American pit bull terrier was leashed to a pole with a sturdy leash. Within moments the dog pulled on the leash with such force that it broke. He immediately ran to another dog. This small dog probably would not have survived the attack without intervention, police say. The officer was forced to shoot the dog because otherwise bystanders would also be in danger. The animal did not survive.
The two attacked dogs were taken to a vet with severe bite wounds. The owner of the American Pit Bull Terrier later reported to the agency for clarification. The police is investigating the case.
