Nicolas Sarkozy awaiting the verdict

The Paris Criminal Court is due to render its judgment on Monday, March 1, in the so-called “eavesdropping” case. Accused of “corruption” and “influence peddling”, Nicolas Sarkozy will finally be fixed on his fate. The prosecution requested four years in prison against him, including two closed, during the trial in December 2020. The case dates back to 2013, while Nicolas Sarkozy is wiretapped in the investigation into possible Libyan funding for his countryside. Justice then flushes out another case.

With a secret telephone line, under the name of Paul Bismuth, Nicolas Sarkozy speaks with his lawyer, Thierry Herzog. According to the investigation, they would have sought in these conversations to obtain information on a file from a magistrate of the Court of Cassation, Gilbert Azibert, in exchange for a post in Monaco for the latter. The national financial prosecutor’s office is investigating and sees it as a corruption pact. The three defendants deny the facts. Whatever the decision rendered on Monday, Nicolas Sarkozy will have to return to the bar on March 17. He will be tried this time for the illegal financing of his 2012 campaign.
