The mainland trouble in Suez. Navigation in the canal was “temporarily suspended” until the giant ship is refloated Ever Given blocking maritime traffic since Wednesday morning, the Egyptian Suez Canal Authority (SCA) announced Thursday.

“The maritime authorities indicated that 13 ships of the northern convoy (from the Mediterranean, editor’s note) via Port Said which were to pass (…) are stationary in waiting areas until the refloating complete “ from the ship, said George Safwat, spokesperson for the SCA.

Japanese company Shoei Kisen Kaisha announced on Thursday that it was the owner of the giant container ship that is blocking navigation on the Suez Canal and that it was “extremely difficult” to bail it out.

“In cooperation with the local authorities and Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, we are trying to refloat (the ship) but it is extremely difficult”, indicated on his website Shoei Kisen Kaisha.
