In Brazil, more than 3,000 corona deaths have been registered within 24 hours for the second day in a row, the Brazilian Ministry of Health reports. In the past twenty-four hours, 3,438 deaths were registered, more than two hundred fewer than on Friday. Then the counter stopped at 3,650, a day record. The previous day record was dated Tuesday. Brazilian authorities then reported 3,251 registered deaths as a result of COVID-19.
Brazil has broken one grim record after another in recent weeks. More than 100,000 cases of infection were first identified on Thursday. That number was slightly lower on Saturday. In the past 24 hours, 85,948 new cases were diagnosed, more than a thousand more than on Friday.
After the United States, Brazil has the highest number of corona infections and the highest death toll in the world. According to data from Johns Hopkins University, more than 12.4 million infections have been diagnosed in Brazil since the start of the corona pandemic. In total, about 307,000 people in Brazil have already died from the effects of the lung virus.
