On Friday, the court in Middelburg sentenced a 52-year-old man, who is staying in a tbs clinic in Poortugaal, to a prison sentence of nine months. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) had demanded thirty months in prison against the TBS officer.
The man was suspected of breaking into several holiday homes on the Zeeland coast from May 30 to July 4 last year.
During his leave he visited holiday parks in Westkapelle, Renesse, Wissenkerke, Oostkapelle, Burgh-Haamstede, Vrouwenpolder, Cadzand, but that had not been the case, he argued when dealing with his case.
Both he and his daughter were ready for a weekend away, and the man had only been there to collect brochures at the receptions. It was therefore a mystery to him that his ankle bracelet radiated exactly where it had been broken into and that the stolen items were on Marktplaats.
The court sentenced the man to a lesser sentence than demanded, because a number of other burglaries could not be proven.
