Today, Sunday, Kuwait received from Iraq eight tons of archives, files and property belonging to various Kuwaiti institutions that Iraqi forces had seized upon during the period of the invasion in 1990.
This is the third shipment from the archives of the Gulf state to be recovered from Iraq since 2019, according to Kuwaiti and Iraqi officials, after signing the handover report at the Saud Al-Nasser Diplomatic Institute in the capital.
Assistant to the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister for Organizations Affairs, Nasser Al-Hain, said that the shipment includes «the archives of Kuwait University, the Ministry of Information, and many other bodies, in addition to some of the Ministry of Information’s equipment.
He added, “Kuwait always welcomes these efforts and the completion of the archive handover, and we look forward to further cooperation, and there will be additional steps close to reaching the full handover of the archive.”
For his part, the Undersecretary of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Legal Affairs, Qahtan Al-Janabi, pointed out that the Kuwaiti side had previously sent statements of Kuwaiti missing persons, “and accordingly, the handover is made.”
