Jumbo-Visma rider Jonas Vingegaard won the final classification in the International Cycling Week Coppi-Bartali on Saturday. In the final stage of the Italian stage race, the Dane’s leader’s jersey was no longer in danger.
The 24-year-old Vingegaard was part of a late breakaway in the fifth and final hilly stage and finished second behind stage winner Mikkel Frølich Honoré.
The Jumbo-Visma rider had an extremely successful week in Italy. After his stage victory in the second stage, he took the lead in the general classification. On Friday, thanks to his second stage victory, he was almost certain of the final victory.
Thanks to Vingegaard’s overall victory, Jumbo-Visma has so far reached ten victories this season. This puts the Dutch formation in second place on the list of teams with the most victories in 2021. Only the Belgian Deceuninck-Quick-Step won more races this year (thirteen).
