Joe Biden invites 40 world leaders to climate summit

When Joe Biden took office as President of the United States in January, the United States rejoined the Paris Agreement and now he is inviting 40 world leaders to a digital climate summit.

During the meeting, which takes place digitally on April 22-23, climate change will be discussed to reach the 1.5 degree goal. The meeting should also be seen as a milestone ahead of the UN climate conference COP26 in Glasgow in November.

Ahead of the meeting, the United States will also announce its emissions target by 2030 to contribute to the Paris Agreement.

Sweden is not on the list

The list of invited world leaders includes Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron, Danish Prime Minister Frederiksen and Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg. However, Sweden is not on the White House’s list of invited countries.

Joe Biden himself should not have talked to Chinese President Xi Jinping or Russian Vladimir Putin about the meeting. However, Biden has told reporters that “they know they are invited”, reports CNBC.
