In Paris, Rachida Dati calls for the opening of vaccination to school staff

The mayor Les Républicains of the 7th arrondissement of Paris signed a platform with other right-wing councilors in the capital to demand the immediate opening of vaccination to school professionals. According to her, this measure would keep establishments open while the third wave of contamination intensifies.

INTERVIEWSeveral Paris district mayors labeled on the right are calling in a column published on Saturday to urgently open the vaccination against Covid-19 to teachers and educational staff to avoid school closures. These elected officials believe that the horizon set this week by Emmanuel Macron to vaccinate professionals in the school sector, namely mid-April or the end of April, is too far away. “We saw clearly during the first confinement that the closure of schools was a social disaster, a psychological disaster. The priority is to keep the schools open”, explains at the microphone of Europe 1 Rachida Dati, the mayor Les Republicans of the 7th arrondissement of the capital, and one of the signatories of this text.

“There is an increasing contagiousness and therefore to preserve the opening of the classes, it is necessary to vaccinate the teaching staff, but also all the school and extracurricular staff”, pleads the elected official. It thus supports the government’s desire to keep schools open despite the epidemic context – and calls for closure within the opposition and the scientific community – “because we realized the worsening inequalities and the social disaster we were dealing with. ”

“If you have a few slots, additional doses …”

“What we are proposing with all the mayors of the 15th, 16th, 17th, 8th and 6th arrondissements, is to reserve vaccination slots for teachers and school staff, without prejudice to eligible people. currently “, explains Rachida Dati. “It’s all about organization. If you have a few slots, extra doses … maybe we could allocate them to teachers and school staff.”

She claims to have already done this at the level of her district: “I have, for example, been able to vaccinate school principals”, confides Rachida Dati. “We must be able to do it without controversy. It is a political will.”
