The Prime Minister of the German federal state of Bavaria, Markus Söder, called on “as soon as possible” to make a decision on the approval of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine. In turn, Thuringian Prime Minister Bodo Ramelov called the ideological prejudices against the Russian drug absurd. Earlier, the German Ministry of Health admitted that there are not enough COVID-19 vaccines in Europe to stop the third wave of the pandemic. The German and Italian authorities have also announced their willingness to nationally approve the use of the Sputnik V vaccine if the European Medicines Agency (EMA) does not issue a permit.
So, on the eve of the Prime Minister of the German federal state of Bavaria, Markus Söder called “as soon as possible” to make a decision on the approval of “Sputnik V”.
“Vaccination is the only viable long-term strategy. Therefore, we urgently need to expedite the admission procedure. It is necessary, for example, to make a decision on the admission of “Sputnik V” as soon as possible, – said Zöder.
The minister stressed that the EU must do everything necessary to gain access to the maximum number of vaccines.
“Because the truth is this: we will defeat the coronavirus only through vaccination,” he explained.
A similar opinion was expressed by Prime Minister Bodo Ramelov of Thuringia, who called the ideological prejudices regarding the Russian vaccine, which, according to him, are found in the western part of Germany, “ridiculous”.
“I am in favor of Sputnik V, not because this vaccine is produced in Russia, but because I believe that we must purchase all available vaccines.”, — quotes his words Das Erste.
“What I see is the ideological sensitivity of West Germans in this matter, which I think is ridiculous,” Ramelov pointed out.
Recall that a number of European countries have recently extended or tightened restrictive measures due to an increase in the number of cases of coronavirus. At the same time, German Health Minister Jens Spahn previously admitted that there are not enough coronavirus vaccines in Europe to stop the third wave of the pandemic.

The Russian Sputnik V vaccine is currently being tested by the European Pharmaceutical Agency (EMA). At the same time, earlier German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi announced their readiness at the national level to make a decision on the use of the Russian drug if it is not approved by the EMA. Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz also urged EMA to register Russian and “all safe vaccines” for use in Europe as soon as possible, noting that “the more, the better.”
Meanwhile, on March 26, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that she wrote a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin asking him to send Sputnik V. According to her, at a meeting with Russian Ambassador Oleg Vasnetsov, she said that she was counting on Moscow’s help in gaining access to the Russian vaccine.
“I wrote a letter to the President of Russia on the issue of obtaining a vaccine,” RIA Novosti quoted Sandu as saying.
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov previously noted that Russia was the first country to complete the development and production of a vaccine. The Kremlin spokesman added that Russia is increasing the pace of drug production to complete the vaccination of its population, while at the same time doing everything possible to meet international demand for its vaccine in the foreseeable future.
Vaccination in Russia
Recall that mass vaccination against coronavirus infection continues in Russia. The country has registered three drugs against COVID-19: “Sputnik V” developed by the Center. Gamaleya, “EpiVacCorona” Center of Virology and Biotechnology “Vector”, and “KoviVak” Federal Scientific Center named after M.P. Chumakov RAS.

In particular, Alexander Ryzhikov, head of the department of zoonotic infections and influenza at the Vector center, told RT that EpiVacCorona is suitable for repeated use during vaccination. The specialist explained that “in fact, one person can be vaccinated for a lifetime.”
“Actually, the synthetic nature, the absence of components of living origin of this vaccine ensure its harmlessness,” Ryzhikov emphasized.
He also clarified that the drug is resistant to known strains of coronavirus.
“Until now, we are tracking all mutations that are known for new strains of a new type of coronavirus (for example, the British variant, South African and Brazilian). Their mutations do not correspond to the conservative regions that we have chosen for inclusion in the vaccine, ”he said.
Ryzhikov stressed that the creators of the drug have achieved the advantages of the vaccine, which ensures its resistance to mutations.
Over the past day, 9088 new cases of coronavirus infection were detected in Russia, of which the largest number is in Moscow (1878) and St. Petersburg (701).
Over the past 24 hours, 8,630 people have recovered in the country, 336 patients have died from complications that developed against the background of COVID-19 and concomitant diseases.
The total number of cases of coronavirus registered in Russia has reached 4,519,832, since the beginning of the pandemic, 97,740 people have died, 4,139,128 patients have recovered from the disease.
According to the press service of Rospotrebnadzor, more than 119.5 million laboratory tests have already been carried out in the country for the presence of the virus.
