The head of the Egyptian Suez Canal Authority said on Saturday March 27 that the strong gusts of wind were not the main reason for the ship’s grounding, as operations continue to free the container ship which has been blocking navigation since Tuesday.
“Other errors, human or technical, could also come into play”, Ossama Rabie said at a press conference in Suez. “The investigation will highlight all of these factors”, he said, adding: “the type of soil we are dealing with is very difficult to manage”.
“I can’t decide exactly (of the calendar). We can finish today or tomorrow, depending on how the ship reacts to the tides. We have set up other emergency scenarios “, said the official, adding that the grounding of the ship did not cause victims or generate pollution.
