Gaming company losing big sponsor – cause of harassment allegations against CEO? – Exports

Alienware, the international sponsor of the League of Legends racing series, wants to terminate the deal.

U.S. computer maker Alienware is prematurely terminating an extensive contract for the League of Legends race, news reports reported. DOT Sports citing its sources late Monday.

According to DOT Esports, the collaboration agreement between Alienware and LoL publisher Riot Games is currently due to expire in January 2022, but the equipment manufacturer wants to end it immediately. According to sources, Alienware has invoked the company’s recent negative public image in negotiations with Riot.

Riot rose to the headlines in February when a former employee sued the company’s CEO Nicolo Laurentin. The female employee alleges that the company terminated her employment contract on the wrong grounds and forced her to work unpaid overtime. He also claims Laurent suggested inappropriate travel arrangements and made sexist comments to him. Riot has been in the headlines about sexism in the past.

Riotin the representative has confirmed to DOT Esports that the companies are currently in discussions, of which, however, he cannot elaborate further. Last weekend, Riot removed Alienware’s branding from all of its tournament broadcasts. As early as the beginning of the month, the logos appeared in the familiar places of the broadcasts of the LEC and LCS leagues, among others.

The cooperation agreement between the equipment manufacturer and Riot covers all of LoL’s regional top series, the MSI special tournament, which will be played in the middle of the year, and the massive World Championships.

Alienware has not commented. Speculation has called into question the company’s motive for terminating the contract. The company responded to the harassment with a delay of more than a month, so many believe Alienware saw it as an opportunity to get rid of an expensive sponsorship deal.

This is the second time in a year that Riot has lost a big and moneyful sponsor to LoL. Last summer, the European LEC League withdrew from a sponsorship deal around the NEOM project in Saudi Arabia due to public pressure.
