France booked its first win in the qualifying series for the 2022 World Cup on Sunday. The reigning world champion won 0-2 against Kazakhstan in Nur-Sultan.
Ousmane Dembélé opened the score in the nineteenth minute with a slider in the left corner. Just before half-time, Sergiy Maliy made it 0-2 with an own goal. The defender headed the ball into the wrong goal at a corner.
Kylian Mbappé, who only came on the field after an hour of play, missed the excellent chance of the third goal fifteen minutes before the end. The attacker of Paris Saint-Germain saw a penalty kick saved by Aleksandr Mokin.
With the victory in Kazakhstan, France recovered from the poor start in the World Cup qualifying campaign. Last Wednesday, ‘Les Bleus’ started in Paris with a 1-1 draw against Ukraine.
France leads with four points in group D, but later in the day, Ukraine or Finland can come on a level with the team of national coach Didier Deschamps. Those two countries will play against each other in Kiev at 8.45 p.m.
