Former head of the Serpukhov district of the Moscow region Shestun went on hunger strike


The former head of the Serpukhov district of the Moscow region, Alexander Shestun, who is in SIZO-1 in Tver, convicted of corruption crimes, went on a hunger strike. This was announced by his wife Yulia Shestun.

“Today we learned that Alexander Shestun, who is in the Tver detention center, notified the administration of the institution about the start of a hunger strike due to repression by the leadership of the FKU SIZO-1 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia,” she told TASS.

As Shestun clarified, this is her husband’s fourth hunger strike in isolation.

On March 1, it was reported that Shestun began to be transferred from the pre-trial detention center to the colony.

In December, the court sentenced the ex-official to 15 years in a strict regime colony with a fine of 49 million rubles in a corruption case with multibillion-dollar damage.

In addition, he was ordered to pay 64.5 million rubles in favor of the municipal budget of the Serpukhov region.
