For the time being no actions by trade unions due to letter from the RET | NOW

The unions are putting forward the proposed actions at the RET for a while. At the last minute, the management of the Rotterdam transport company sent a letter containing starting points for further discussion about terms of employment.

On Friday afternoon, the ultimatum that the unions had set to put pressure on a new collective labor agreement expired. The management of the RET has been able to get the action threat off the table for the time being.

“They did not send the letter I was hoping for, in which our requirements will be addressed. But the management does offer a number of openings. Not everything is a no-go anymore,” says union leader Eric Vermeulen of FNV Stadsvervoer.

Nevertheless, the ultimatum has not been abandoned, but has been postponed. On Monday, the RET and the unions will meet to talk again. “I want a more detailed explanation of what the management means exactly, because that is not entirely clear to me. It does not therefore mean that we will reach an agreement in the short term.”

Trade unions and the RET have been talking about a new collective labor agreement for nine months. The trade unions do not want the staff to suffer in terms of purchasing power and working conditions, but the RET is in dire straits and has to make substantial cutbacks. There is a great willingness to take action among the staff.
