Emirati initiative to train local doping test cadres


Rima Al Hosani, Chair of the Support Fund Committee for the Elimination of Doping in Sports, affiliated to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), revealed an Emirati initiative to train doping screening cadres, by making use of the great experience the country enjoys in the field of combating doping.

This came during the extraordinary meeting of the fund hosted by the UAE, during which the requests submitted by countries for support were discussed, and special activities in the member states and the initiatives presented, in the framework of combating doping in sport around the world, were discussed and approved and projects evaluated. Al Hosani said, in a press statement: “The meeting was successful, and it strengthened the country’s position on the regional and global map, being the first time that the fund held its meeting outside its headquarters in France since its establishment in 2008.”

The meeting witnessed the presence of the Head of the Executive Office of the Conference of the Seven States Parties at UNESCO, Marcos Diaz, and members of the Support Fund Committee from Russia, Italy, India and Zambia, while the rest of the members of the committee participated via video technology.

For his part, Assistant Secretary-General of the General Authority for Sports, Khaled Al-Midfa, affirmed in the opening speech of the meeting, “The UAE’s embrace of the meeting confirms the great position of the country on the global level, and praised the great role played by Dr. Rima Al Hosani, who is the first woman to chair the fund.” .
