VVD (34) and D66 (24) will keep the expected number of seats, according to the official election results on Friday. There will also definitely be four new parties in the House of Representatives: Volt and JA21 with three seats and the BoerBurgerBeweging and BIJ1 with one seat each.
The election results are no different from the final forecast of the ANP. The further seat distribution is as follows: PVV (17), CDA (15), SP and PvdA (9 each), GroenLinks and Forum for Democracy (8 each), Party for the Animals (6), ChristenUnie (5), SGP and THINK (3 each) and 50PLUS (1).
Now that the Electoral Council has determined the result, the Credentials Committee of the House of Representatives must confirm the final result. The committee then checks whether all “elected” candidates meet the conditions. The new MPs will be sworn in on 31 March.
Scouts stopped by leaking notes
The formation discussions started this week. VVD party leader in the Senate Annemarie Jorritsma and outgoing Minister of the Interior Kajsa Ollongren (D66) had the role of scouts, but the leaking of notes forced them to stop.
Tamara van Ark (VVD) and Wouter Koolmees (D66) will take over the task and have announced that they will be talking to all seventeen group chairmen again. Van Ark and Koolmees cannot yet say whether they have the same ambition as Jorritsma and Ollongren to have a coalition agreement before the summer.
