Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said today, Tuesday, that the misdemeanor of a ship in the Suez Canal has reaffirmed the importance of the waterway.
He added, on a visit to the Suez Canal Authority, to congratulate its crew on floating the ship, that he did not wish for an accident such as the ship’s stranding, but what happened reaffirmed the importance of the canal.
Al-Sisi pointed out that the Suez Canal represents one of the basic elements of global trade, adding that the ship crisis came to confirm that the importance of the canal remains and is capable of transporting 12% of world trade.
Al-Sisi added that the ship’s accident “confirmed and cemented the importance of the canal in light of the ongoing talk of alternatives to it.”
President El-Sisi thanked the employees of the Suez Canal Authority, praising their performance, which was more than honorable, and their success in solving the crisis of the delinquent ship in the Suez Canal.
Yesterday, Monday, the navigation traffic in the Suez Canal returned to normal, after the remarkable success of efforts to float the Panamanian vessel “Ever Giffen”, which was running aground in the waterway, last week.
