The province of Drenthe has applied for the European Cyclo-cross Championships later this year. The intention is that the European Championship will be held on the VAM mountain in November.
According to Thijs Rondhuis, the owner of Courage Events, Drenthe has received the promise that the event can be held there. The condition is that the province succeeds in securing the financing.
“When we learned that the European Championship was still available, we entered into discussions with the parties involved,” said Rondhuis. “It is now a matter of getting the subsidy awarded by the Provincial Council. But it looks good.”
The candidacy has now been announced at the European cycling association UEC. In 2020, the European Cyclocross Championship was also assigned to the Netherlands. Then Rosmalen was host. The Belgian Eli Iserbyt and the Dutch Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado then took the European titles.
Last year, the NK cycling was also organized on the VAM mountain in Wijster. The national titles then went to Anna van der Breggen and Mathieu van der Poel.
