Dillian Whyte took revenge on Alexander Povetkin.
British boxer Dillian Whyten the dream of a heavyweight heavy money World Cup match is alive.
Whyte, 32, strengthened his position Anthony Joshuan and Tyson Furyn on the challenger exchange when he knocked out a Russian late Saturday night Aleksandr Povetkinin.
The match in Gibraltar was at the same time a revenge for Whytelle from Povetkin. Povetkin, 41, had also won the duel’s previous fight in August last year.
Now Whyte clearly controlled the match and ended it with a technical knockout in the fourth set. Whyte first hit Povetkin on the ropes with a hard right-handed blow and then hit the Russian head twice more.
Povetkin, the 2004 Olympic champion in Athens, still stood up from the canvas, but the ring judge looked him in the eye and realized the suspension was the only right option. At the same moment, a towel flew from Povetkin’s corner to the ring.
Robert Helenius who defeated in 2017, Whyte has now fought as a professional 30 times and left the ring 28 times as the winner.
– His World Cup dream was interrupted today. So the pressure was enormous. He wanted to get back on the road to the top and nothing else was right for him. He rolled Povetkin, mumbling this around the perimeter. We are again where we want to be. The goal is still the same: Getting Dillian into the World Cup, promoter Eddie Hearn said to SkySports BBC: n mukaan.
