Dialogue and poetry in a seminar on reading in “Abu Dhabi Art” – Our Life – Culture


The Abu Dhabi Foundation for Literary and Cultural Arts organized, in cooperation with the Al Suwaidi Foundation, within the activities of the National Reading Month, a virtual symposium that discussed several topics on reading.

Dr. Jamal Interview, Dr. Mariam Al Suwaidi from the United Arab Emirates University, Dr. Mona Al Ameri from the Department of Education and Knowledge, poet and media personality Abdullah Al-Hadiya, and Alaa Zain from Al-Futtaim Educational Foundation participated in the symposium, and it was moderated by Samia Badr, Director of Strategic Partnerships and Media at the Abu Dhabi Art Foundation.

The participants stressed the importance of reading, as it is one of the main engines of the renaissance of different and diverse peoples and civilizations, stressing the family role in promoting and sustaining the culture of reading.

The discussion touched on the impact of digital development on reading, and how reading habits have changed in the Arab world in light of the spread of modern means of communication.

The symposium concluded with a poem by the poet Abdullah al-Hediya entitled “Sultan of the Dhad,” including:

Catch you to identify yourself and embrace a reason .. for the pride of the dad to interrogate the meteors .. and raise the echo of the discarded language its theater .. and erase in its roles the opinions of those who shed .. and wash the darkness of the nights and wait for hope .. at the time of dawn rises whenever it leaps.

For his part, the founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Abu Dhabi Art Foundation, Dr. Hamid bin Muhammad Khalifa Al-Suwaidi, said, “Reading is the gateway to knowledge, and the fact that the UAE adopts every year in March as a month for reading confirms our leadership’s keenness to consolidate this culture to prepare generations of readers who are able to complete the development process. It is also an invitation to our societies to pay attention to reading, because the nation that reads is the one that promotes ”.
