De Boer enjoys Orange: ‘Every attack was dangerous’ | NOW

The Dutch national team failed to set a big score against Latvia on Saturday (2-0 win), but national coach Frank de Boer was very satisfied with the game of his team in the World Cup qualifying match.

“I actually enjoyed everyone,” said De Boer after the game in front of five thousand fans in the Johan Cruijff ArenA in conversation with the US. “We kept up the pace, almost every attack was dangerous. We just forgot to reward ourselves.”

The Orange had more than 76 percent of the ball possession against the weak Latvians, came to 36 shots and no fewer than 96 ball contacts in the penalty area of the opponent. Despite this, the home team only scored twice. Steven Berghuis scored the opening goal before half-time and Luuk de Jong signed for the final score in the second half.

“We should have made at least five more goals. It’s incredible, we hit the bar several times and there was always a Latvian leg in between,” said De Boer. “That’s frustrating, because we all know that goal difference is important in World Cup qualifying. But the way we’ve played makes me very happy.”
