Raemon Sluiter returns as a coach in tennis. The former coach of Kiki Bertens has recently started coaching Tallon Griekspoor, the highest placed Dutch tennis player reports on Saturday The Telegraph.
The 24-year-old Griekspoor has been working with national trainer Dennis Schenk for some time, but the coach who lives in Mallorca cannot always travel with the number 140 of the world ranking. That is why Sluiter was added to the coaching staff.
“Raemon will accompany me for ten to fifteen weeks this year and the same goes for Dennis,” Griekspoor tells the newspaper. “And when Dennis is not in the Netherlands, I train with Raemon every day.”
The 42-year-old Sluiter was coach of Kiki Bertens for more than four years. Under the leadership of the former pro, Bertens worked her way up to the world top in women’s tennis and reached the semi-finals of Roland Garros (2016). With a fourth place in the world ranking, she also became the highest ranked Dutch tennis player of all time.
The collaboration came to an end in the autumn of 2019, because Bertens had a better feeling with coach Elise Tamaëla. Since then, the 29-year-old Wateringse has never come close to her top form, partly due to injuries. On Friday she lost no chance in Miami to the Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the number 126 in the world.
After the break with Bertens, Sluiter was briefly coach of the German Julia Görges. After a trial period of more than three months, the collaboration was ended in October last year. Not much later, Görges ended her career. Since then, coach Sluiter had no pupil under his wing.
