On Saturday, Iran and China signed a 25-year strategic cooperation agreement in Tehran that has been under discussion for years, an AFP journalist said.
The “25-year strategic cooperation agreement” as it was called by state television, the details of which have not been released yet, were signed by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, who is visiting Tehran.
The agreement is expected to include Chinese investments in the energy and infrastructure sectors in Iran.
In 2016, China, Iran’s largest trading partner and long-time ally, agreed to more than ten-fold the trade exchange to $ 600 billion over the next decade.
“This agreement is a complete roadmap that includes strategic political and economic clauses covering cooperation in the fields of trade, economy and transportation … with a specific focus on the private sector on both sides,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh told state television.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday that Beijing will make efforts to safeguard the Iran nuclear deal and defend the legitimate interests of Sino-Iranian relations.
